General Description

The Malt Shovel Tavern, Northampton

This year's (2011) Runner-up Northants CAMRA Pub of the Year

The Malt Shovel has be described "a discerning connoisseur's drinking paradise..." and is an award-winning freehouse filled with lots of interesting breweriana much of it from the Phipp's and N.B.C. breweries, noted not only for its beverages but for its absence of such acoutriments as fruit machines, pool tables and widescreen televisions and regular music nights (blues, every Wednesday) too

There has been a pub on this site since 1640, the present pub being rebuilt by the Northampton Brewing Co. in 1914 — the original being demolished in order to widen the street

Darts can be played and the pub has Ladies' and Mens' teams

Food served Monday to Saturday lunchtimes (12-2)
